Wildlife courier class planned

The Carbon County Environmental Education Center will host a presentation by Wildlife in Need on their statewide wildlife courier program at 7 p.m. Friday. The group’s mission is to recruit and train volunteers willing to deliver distressed wildlife from members of the public to licensed care centers or veterinarians.

Care centers such as CCEEC are few and far between throughout Pennsylvania, and often operate with limited resources. Volunteers are essential to their operations, but must be informed and trained before they can assist.

The class, presented by Suzanne De’Arment, will address regulations, safety, preparedness and proper transport techniques. The class is free and open to ages 18 and up. Space is limited. Registration is required by Sept. 19, and can be done by calling CCEEC at 570-645-8597. The center is located at the west end of Mauch Chunk Lake Park along Lentz Trail, just outside of Jim Thorpe.
