At 1 p.m. today, the Western Pocono Community Library will host West End Community Ambulance Association for an informative program and a tour of the equipment.
Demonstrations on hands-only CPR, bleeding control and stroke assessment will be given, as well as a tour of the equipment used, including the truck. This program is for all ages.

Pleasant Valley High School’s athletes will be recognized at the PVHS Athletics Awards event tonight. It begins at 6 p.m.
New meeting areas
Beginning today, there are new meeting locations for both of the Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church’s men’s and women’s Bible studies happening at 7 p.m. Wednesday evenings.
Girlfriends will now meet at 113 Pilgrim Way in Brodheadsville, working with a book study for Lysa TerKeurst’s “It’s Not Supposed to be This Way.” Ladies are encouraged to pick up a copy.
Man Up will now meet in the classroom located in the back of the church across from the shed.

The PVIS fourth-grade chorus concert is on the calendar for tonight, beginning at 7 p.m.
During the day, the PVIS school will hold its end of the year carnival.
The PVIS sixth-grade chorus concert will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The PVIS PTO meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
Polk Township Recreation Board & Park Committee meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Polk Township Municipal Building in Kresgeville.
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Chestnuthill-Jackson-Eldred-Ross-Polk group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building in Brodheadsville.
English as a Second Language classes will be held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Western Pocono Community Library. ESL classes are free and open to the public; no preregistration is required. For more information, contact the library at 570-992-7934.
Quiet Valley will celebrate its 31st Farm Animal frolic on Saturday and Sunday.

The food pantry at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
McMichaels UMC volunteers will be helping and serving at the Stroudsburg UMC Soup Kitchen this Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m., with the serving starting at 4 p.m.
Cleanup follows after the meal has been served.
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will have a community meal, takeout, from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday various offices are closed, including Pleasant Valley School District; Chestnuthill and other townships; and church offices, such as Effort UMC.
Memorial Day events
Chestnuthill Park will be the site for a veterans concert at 6 p.m. Sunday featuring Chris Eckert.
American Legion Post 927 on Fairgrounds Road in Gilbert will be hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday. There will be guest speakers, and a light luncheon will be offered.
All are welcome.
Western Pocono Community Library has introduced its new ongoing program: LEGO Challenge.
Small pieces are included; therefore this program is only open to patrons 6 years old and up.
Stop by the library, pick up a challenge card at the LEGO Challenge Center and begin creating. Prizes will only be awarded to the patron who can complete the challenge correctly.
This program is available Mondays, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Blakeslee Community Center, up several miles on Route 115 from Mount Effort, is holding a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Knit & Crochet
Zion Lutheran’s group of nimble needles will be busy at work on Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m. Newcomers are welcome to learn or help with knitting and crocheting for the sake of those who are hurting in some way.
Lioness Club meets
The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
The West End Republican Club is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Lakeside Restaurant in Saylorsburg. Those wishing to have the optional dinner are asked to be there at 6 p.m.

The West End group of Monroe County Seniors meeting as the Chestnuthill Seniors at Zion Lutheran Church’s Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville can opt for a light lunch or a regular fare lunch.
The light lunch for Friday is tuna antipasto, cucumber salad, sliced peaches, whole grain bread and rice pudding.
The regular fare is eggplant rotolini/pasta, spinach, yellow squash and whole grain bread.
The activity at 10 a.m. is Healthy Steps in Motion with Dolores.
For next Wednesday, the light meal is BLT wrap, macaroni salad, banana/juice, sugar-free pudding.
The regular fare lunch is pork and sauerkraut, Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes and cauliflower blend.
The scheduled activity is a game of rummy, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Attendees are reminded to let the site manager know of their lunch choices by 11 a.m. the day before.
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting an art opening of Terry Flatt’s Nature’s Magic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1.
The exhibit will include beautiful photos from countries including Great Britain, Europe, Africa, South America, Australia/New Zealand, Iceland, Norway and more. The exhibit runs May 31 through July 1.
