This Saturday, American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert will host a Post clean up day at 9 a.m. No tools are required.

A Flag Day ceremony is being held at 11 a.m. In addition to the ceremony, which is open to the public, Boy Scout Troop 102 and Pack 102 are offering proper US flag disposal. At 1 p.m. the Sons of the American Legion will host its annual clambake. There is a cost.

Do for dads

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, children can color a free baseball cap or a barbecue apron for dad at the Ross Township Park on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

The event is being hosted by the West End Park and Open Space Commission.

Park benefit

A benefit is being held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Blue Ridge Vineyard, 239 Blue Ridge Road, Saylorsburg, to help the future leash-free dog park at the West End Regional Park. There is a cost and tickets are available at the winery or from any WEPOSC board member.

Strawberry festival

St. Matthew’s UCC in Kunkletown is holding its strawberry festival and 16th annual car show on Father’s Day Sunday. Breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and continues to 10 a.m.

At 10 a.m. the worship service is held. The food stand will be closed during the worship time. The car show and strawberry festival follow and continue until 4.

There will be entertainment by One Night Stand and an auto flea market.

A portion of the car show proceeds will be donated to Monroe and Carbon counties Meals on Wheels programs.

Summer schedule

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kresgeville begins its summer schedule this Sunday.

The worship service, with Holy Communion, and honoring of fathers, will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Trustees breakfast

Effort UMC’s Trustees will be cooking breakfast for the monthly Fellowship Breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday. It is a freewill breakfast that benefits the Capital Improvements fund at the church.

Majesty to come

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, will host worship through song on Sunday, Father’s Day, by inviting Majesty from Penn View Bible Institute into its sanctuary.

Worship begins at 10 a.m. The young folks are studying for Christian mission field work as ministers, missionaries, and Christ-like servant leaders at the Penn’s Creek.

All are invited. St. Peter’s United Methodist Church is located at 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg.

LAMA meeting

The Latin American Motorcycle Association, Pocono Chapter, will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

West End Wings

The 40th annual Father’s Day West End Wings radio-controlled flight program will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in Effort with a rain date of Sunday, June 23.

Admission is free.

Confirmation held

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church celebrated the Confirmation of over 60 people on Pentecost Sunday.

Registration for the 2019-2020 school year of religious education is now open.

Community dinner

Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, has a free community dinner on its calendar from 5 to 6:30 p.m. June 19.

Registration opening

The Monroe County Youth Field Day registration for the free event for children being held Sept. 7 will open on Monday. The form is available at mcyfd.org. Children must be between 8 and 14 to be able to participate in this free event being held at Camp Trexler in Jonas.

WPWC meeting

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort UMC.

The program for the evening will be a presentation on deep muscle massage by massage therapist Lori Smith.

The Refreshment Committee is: Pam Borger, Andrea Lazicki, Michele Haydt, Sue Shupp and Tonya Weiss.

In addition the group will be collecting diapers, wipes, and onesies for Angel’s Closet.

The recipients of the club’s two scholarships will be announced at the meeting.

Prayer Shawl group

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at the church to knit and crochet from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday.

Chestnuthill

The board of supervisors for Chestnuthill Township will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township municipal building on Route 715.

Peer meeting

The VALOR Peer to Peer meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Post 927 main hall in Gilbert. It is open to all Post and non- Post veterans and families.

Student film

Monroe County Conservation District has announced the Kettle Creek Environmental Fund’s Outdoor/Environmental short film competition for students either residing in or attending a Monroe County school or university.

The top winner will receive a cash prize, as will the two runners-up.

Winners will also receive two tickets to the KCEF dinner on Sept. 20 at Trout Lake Retreat and a write-up in the dinner program.

PVEN needs

Donors who can bring fresh produce, eggs and other perishables to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Food Pantry, now located on Route 209 in Sciota, should do so the first through fourth Tuesday morning of the month at 8 a.m.

In terms of clothing and other personal items, there is always a need for school clothes, special work clothes such as scrubs and new underwear, socks, sneakers and toiletries.

West End Soccer

Fall registration is now open for 2019 fall soccer. It closes July 1. Go to wesl.us to do the online registration.

Special visitor

The Western Pocono Lions Club will have a special guest when it meets June 20 at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville. Lions District 14-U District Governor Don McConnell will visit and install the officers for the upcoming Lions year as well as induct the club’s newest member, Tommy Kresge.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. and the members can begin to order off the menu at 6:30.

Baseball fundraiser

The Western Pocono Community Library is hosting a Library Night at the RailRiders 30-year anniversary season to benefit the library’s fundraising efforts.

Call the library for more information. Money for tickets is due by no later than July 20 with the library’s Shereen Eckhart.

Those who go early may receive a Ryan Howard bobblehead.

Car Show benefit

On July 27, a car show will be held at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.

It will benefit the Meals on Wheels organizations of Monroe and Northampton counties and is being presented by the Monroe County Cruisers Car Club, Trolley Shops Cruisers Hi-Winders, Pocono Area Corvette Club and the Easton Corvette Club.
