West End Fair begins Sunday

The 98th annual West End Fair is set to begin Sunday. The weeklong fair is full of new and old favorites for fairgoers to indulge in.

Gates open at noon daily except for events prior to opening time. Fairgoers for early events should enter the fairgrounds through Gate 1, the only gate open prior to noon.

Sunday’s schedule of events looks to be a promising to kick off the fair. Quarter Midget Racing is set for 11 a.m. in the main arena.

Performances by Cartesion Dance Academy at 2 p.m. and Gallagher School of Irish Dance at 3 p.m. will take place on the main stage.

The opening ceremony and coronation of the 2019 West End Fair Queen will be at 2 p.m. on the main stage. The annual vesper service will follow at 3 p.m.

Kids’ Pedal Pull will be in the arena hub starting at 2 p.m.

Main Street Cruisers, the first concert of the fair, will perform on the main stage at 6:30 and 8 p.m. The band performs classic rock ’n’ roll hits plus some favorite songs from the ’50s and ’60s. The high-energy group makes anyone get up and dance.

Sunday will conclude with the fireworks spectacular display at 9:30 p.m.

Monday is Community Appreciation Day — free admission for all attendees from noon to 3 p.m.

The groovy Large Flowerheads will perform at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on the main stage. Also, duo Country Rose will perform at the bandshell at 2:30 and 8 p.m.

The Pleasant Valley band will make its annual appearance at 5:30 p.m. at the bandshell.

West End Fair Dirt-a-Rama hosted by the Snydersville Raceway will feature sling shots, go-karts, stage 1 modifieds and outlaw karts. The event will take place at 6 p.m. in the main arena.

Lehigh Valley’s Steel Creek Band will be on the main stage at 7 and 9 p.m.

Free attractions by Agri-Puppets, Chris Eckert MC, Master Organ, PP&L Electrical Safety Demonstration, the Rocketman Valencia and master wood carver Dennis Beach will occur numerous times throughout the week.

Admission to the fair is $6 daily for 11 years of age and older. Parking is free.
