Washington Twp. will advertise fire ordinance

Washington Township is readvertising its fire ordinance, with a better definition of campfires in all districts, distances between properties where there will be campfires, and burning leaves in the fall when it is impossible to get them alongside the road for pickup.

It is on display at the office and a draft is on the website.

In other business this month, Colton Rex was hired as a part-time laborer at a rate of $15/hour.

• Lehigh Asphalt’s bid of $272,929 for superpave material was tentatively approved and Shiffer Bituminous received the bid for seal coating at $190,342. The roads to be worked on are in the recent newsletter.

• Matthew Szuchyt, a liaison from Senator Pat Browne’s office, said they are always willing to help with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and other issues.

• Ed Ziegler thanked supervisors for painting the arrows on the road at Emerald and said the paint is wearing off on Old Mill Road and will need repainting.

• Sherry Graver, emergency management coordinator, said Medicaid ambulance use could be raised from $120 to $180. She said the actual cost is around $500 per call for Northern Valley Ambulance when life support is involved.
