Two people facing charges after Summit Hill incident

Two people were arrested after Summit Hill police were summoned around 9:30 p.m. Nov. 2 to the 200 block of West Ludlow Street for a report of a woman being dragged down the street by a car.

Police said Michael T. Perno, 55, of the 200 block of West White St., and Darlene M. Miller, 54, of the 300 block of East Fell Street, Second Floor, both of Summit Hill, were charged after what police described as a “domestic dispute.”

Perno is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, simple assault, endangering the welfare of another person and harassment.

Miller is facing charges of simple assault and harassment.

Police said shortly after they arrived at the scene Miller was transported to the St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital-Coaldale, for injuries she sustained in the incident. Later, she told police she assaulted Perno with a pool stick, striking him multiple times and chasing him while he was driving away in his vehicle. The woman alleged Perno, who she identified as her boyfriend, dragged her down the street with his pickup truck after an argument.

Police said they advised Miller to contact them after she was released from the hospital but the woman did not, despite multiple efforts by the officer to contact her.

Meanwhile, police said after Miller was taken to the hospital, they located Perno in a 2006 Dodge pickup truck in the area of Poplar and Iron streets. They conducted a traffic stop and said Perno smelled from alcohol and was slurring his words. He failed standard field sobriety tests. Police said he refused to submit to a blood test.

Police said Perno admitted to having an altercation with Miller and stated while at his residence, he did strike her multiple times. He told police he knew Miller was chasing him while he was driving away but he was unaware he dragged her down the street with his truck.
