A train struck a pickup truck in Nesquehoning Friday afternoon after the driver of the pickup reportedly slid after applying his brakes.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. at a train crossing on Allen Street in the borough.

The driver was headed north on Allen when he saw the train and applied the brakes, according to Nesquehoning Police.

The driver said his truck slid about a foot onto the tracks, where it was struck by the train on the front left side.

The vehicle came to a rest in a ditch beside from the tracks not far from the intersection.

The driver said he had leg pain, but did not require treatment at the scene.

His pickup truck had disabling damage and had to be towed by Krajcirik’s Automotive.

Police said an investigation into the incident is pending. Nesquehoning PD and Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad Police responded to the scene.

Maybe if the areas surrounding the railroad crossings were better maintained these kind of things wouldn't happen.
