Cars, cars, everywhere cars.

Indeed, car junkies certainly had their pick of the litter to feast their eyes upon Sunday at the 23rd annual Antique/Collector Car Show at the Slatington Airport along State Route 873.Sponsored by the Slatington Lions Club, there were 428 vehicles entered into the field, a number that was significantly less than the 508 cars that were on display at last year's event, said Ted Kistler, event chairman."We're a little under last year," Kistler said. "I believe that's due to the weather; people were skeptical."Jeff Ritter and his son, Noah, of Allentown, attended the event for the first time."I like walking around, and am enjoying the day," Jeff Ritter said. "I'm just trying to get my son interested in automobiles more."Further down the runway, one could sense Tanner Heath's excitement as he stared in awe of the massive selection of Matchbox and various other car collectibles."I like all the nice cars," said Heath, 12, of Kresgeville. "Especially the 1970 Dodge Challenger."Among the more notable displays that stood out were a Chevrolet 100-year anniversary display that consisted of old cars and two trailers full of memorabilia, courtesy of Ron Smith of Salisbury; the "Flying Fuzz" Motorcycle Drag Racing Team; as well as a monster casket car.Justin Mauer of Slatington was the lucky winner of a 1965 Mustang raffle car. Money was given at the 50/50 drawing, along with four computersThere were 34 classes with three awards per class and over 100 trophies awarded. Alex Shereba, 91, of Lansford, has been to all 23 shows sponsored by the Slatington Lions Club.In addition, there were nine special awards given out:- Peoples' Choice Award -1956 Chevrolet Delivery Wagon, Tony Sebelin, Jim Thorpe.- Lions President's Award - 1964 Pontiac GTO, Dennis Conklin, Slatington.- Mayor's Award - 1955 Chevrolet, Kurt Anklam, Bath.- Masonic Award - 1967 Pontiac GTO, Rick & Sharon Colson, Macungie.- Most Drastically Altered Award - 1936 Chevrolet Truck, Richard Myers, Sykesville, MD.- Bup Kibler Memorial Award - 1968 Barracuda, Brian Strausberger, Kunkletown.- Oldest (STOCK) Car in Show Award - 1924 Jewett 6, Al Grochowski, Northampton.- Furthest Drive Show Vehicle - 180 miles.- Oldest Auto Show Participant Award - Alex Shereba, Lansford.See SLATINGTON car show winners on page 22
