Taxi driver facing DUI

A taxi driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following an incident that occurred on Dec. 4.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said Seanepaul Washington, 38, of Stroudsburg, was operating a Reliable Taxi of the Poconos vehicle at 6:50 a.m. along Country Place Drive in Tobyhanna, when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided into a minivan.

Four people in the van suffered injuries and were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital — Pocono, in East Stroudsburg.

Washington was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and transported to the county DUI center for a blood draw. The DUI count is pending test results.

Police also reported the arrest of Melissa Bartkus, 21, of Wilkes-Barre, for DUI. On Oct. 29 at 2:50 a.m. police responded to the Wawa in Blakeslee for a report of an intoxicated woman.

Police found the vehicle in question and followed it along Route 115 observing traffic violations, at which time a vehicle stop was made.

Bartkus showed signs of impairment, failed field sobriety tests, and was transported for a blood draw at the DUI center. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a motor vehicle code violation.
