Tamaqua Summer Concert Series starts today

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce will bring season No. 13 of the Tamaqua Summer Concert Series to town this evening.

The Cressona Band, sponsored by Shafer’s Pharmacy, will kick off the summer fun from 7-8:30 p.m. The Wednesday kickoff concert is unique, as the rest of the schedule, minus a few exceptions, features concerts every Thursday at the Tamaqua Train Station from 6:30-8 p.m.

Jack Kulp, Executive Director of the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce explained that it has become customary for the series to begin on the last Wednesday of May.

“The first couple of seasons that we did it, it was sparsely attended, and I didn’t really think it was going to fly,” said Kulp. “The third season, it started to fly. … It’s widely popular now and we’re really thrilled about it.”

The series features a variety of genres that will attract many different types of listeners. The series offers types of rock, oldies, blues, country and plenty of other sounds.

“It’s free to come,” Kulp said. “Bring lawn chair, blanket, cooler, whatever you want … I would advise that it’s against the law to consume alcoholic beverages in public, so be aware of that. Also be aware of the fact that the railroad does not want anyone sitting on the tracks or on the gravel anywhere during that time. Do not let your children play around the tracks. We want everyone to be safe.”
