Tamaqua Sept. 11 ceremony planned

Tamaqua’s South Ward Playground Association will continue to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001 with a Community Remembrance Service on Tuesday. The tribute to the victims of the largest terrorist attack on American soil, as well as the first responders who risked their lives at the World Trade Center site, will begin at 6 p.m. at the South Ward Playground. The playground is located at Penn and Oak streets in Tamaqua.

Tamaqua Mayor Nathan Gerace will serve as master of ceremonies. Emily Barrett, David Hull and Koreena Bittner will provide vocal selections. Guest speakers will include: Schuylkill County Commissioners George Halcovage and Gary Hess, Pastor Ed Noftz, Major Sharon Whispell, Micah Gursky, Tom Cara, Justin Startzel, U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Lacey Tyre Timony and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Rich Shupp.

Tamaqua American Legion Post 173 will provide a color guard and taps will be played by Becky Hartranft and D.J. Fredericks.

The public is welcome to attend. Seating is limited, so please bring your own lawn chair.
