Tamaqua police

Tamaqua police charged Michelle Rex, 47, of Lansford, with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with an expired registration following a traffic stop on Sept. 29.

According to police, an officer was on patrol on East Broad Street and when he ran the registration for Rex’s vehicle. he found that it was expired. After stopping the vehicle, Rex gave permission for officers to search it. Inside, police said they found a device commonly used to smoke marijuana along with a small amount of the substance.

• A Reading man faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and driving without a license following a traffic stop by Tamaqua police on April 29.

Police were on patrol on Center Street and ran the license plate of a passing vehicle and found that the driver, Lazaro Salavarria, 56, did not have a driver’s license. Officers stopped the vehicle, and Salavarria admitted to only having a photo identification.

Officers told Salavarria that the vehicle would be towed since he was not permitted to drive. A tow-truck driver moved a seat and found a bag that contained green leafy material. Salavarria said it was “spice” and was intended for his personal use.

• Shawn Bush, 50, of Tamaqua, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia by Tamaqua police following a 1:15 a.m. Oct. 2 incident at a borough bar.

Officers were dispatched to the business for a report of a threat. Upon arrival, a man told them that police threatened to beat his girlfriend.

Officers spoke to Bush, who said she was living with the man and his girlfriend and was recently kicked out. She said she had several belongings in the residence but was not allowed to retrieve them.

Upon further investigation, police learned that Bush was wanted on a warrant for dangerous drugs. She was placed under arrest. During a search, police found drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine in her possession.

She was taken to the Schuylkill County Prison.
