Senior Citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., in the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.Last week's meeting was attended by 86 members. One new member, Ruth Schwoyer, was welcomed to the group. President Jean Yanik conducted the business session.Eleanor Roberts offered an invocation, entitled "Without a Doubt."Secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld offered her weekly report. Jean Machamer offered inspirational readings.Helen Wetterau was added to the sick list.September and October birthdays were celebrated. Honorees included: Carole Sullivan, Carol Sedlak, Joan Ann Garber, Betty Brobst, Mary Nazar, Jane Tartar, Mary Herbig, Marlene Randig, Olive Beibleheimer, Mary Draper, Eleanor Roberts, Rose vallee, Ruth Schwoyer, Suzanne Highes and Alberta Woodring. Each was provided with cake and ice cream compliments of the E. Franklin Griffiths Funeral Home.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.St. Peter'sThe Rev. Rodney Wells will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this World Wide Communion Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville.The service will be followed by a breakfast fund raiser.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m.Activities for next week will include: Thursday, Prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Worship and Music Committee meeting will be at 6 p.m. and dinner theater rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: Junior Choir at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir at 7:45 p.m.Class of 2010Parents of the Tamaqua Area Class of 2010 will meet Oct. 5, at 7 p.m., in the senior high school cafeteria. The group will discuss the results of this weekend's clothing drive.The drive will be held Oct. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m.; Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the American Hose Company, Mauch Chunk Street.Also to be discussed is a trip to Trump Plaza on Nov. 15.
