Tamaqua High School schedules holiday concert

The Tamaqua Senior High School Music Department will present its’ annual “Holiday Music Program” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium.

The concert will feature the best in holiday selections presented by students in the Concert Choir, Jazz Chorale, Sr. High Wind Ensemble, and the Raider Concert Band.

The Wind Ensemble, featuring musicians from grades nine through 12, will open the program with “Fanfare Prelude, Adeste Fidelis” by Timothy Johnson. They will follow that with the holiday classic “Sleigh Ride” by LeRoy Anderson. “Good Tidings to All” by Ed Huckeby closes the first set of the program.

The Concert Choir opens the vocal portion of the concert with “Come and See the Baby” arranged by Cynthia Gray. They will follow that with a rare traditional Irish lullaby “Shoeen Sho.” The first half of the program comes to a close with the choir singing “Carols Around In a Round” by Carl Nygard.

The Raider Concert Band takes the stage opening the second half of the program with “C’est Noel” by Andre Jutras. The next two selections are compilations of traditional holiday carols. First the band will play “A Carol Celebration” arranged by Michael Story followed by “Lullaby Carols” arranged by Robert W. Smith. The instrumental portion of the concert concludes with “Yuletide Memory” arranged by Roland Barrett.

The Jazz & Concert Chorale will close the program beginning with a Nigerian Christmas carol “Betelehemu” arranged by Andy Beck. The chorale will then sing “Song of Thanksgiving.” The traditional Gustav Holst classic “In the Bleak Midwinter” is next. Finally the chorale concludes their set with the holiday favorite “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”

The program will conclude with the audience joining the band and choir for a festive singalong.

Accompanists for the choirs are Olivia Lattanzi and Maura Walker.

The Raider Band and Senior High Wind Ensemble are under the direction of Mark E. Beltz and the Concert Choir and Jazz Chorale are under the direction of John D. Buglio.

Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. There is an admission charge.
