Tamaqua Community Arts Center events

The Tamaqua Community Arts Center has announced upcoming events.

• Clay Works Family Creative Studio Workshop: The Art of Wheel Throwing with JoAnn Pilston begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 and will be held for five sessions. The class is recommended for ages 13 and older. Learn the fundamentals to throw bowls, cups and cylinders on a potter’s wheel. Simple and advanced techniques of throwing shaping and trimming pieces along with surface decoration, glazing and firing techniques. All levels welcome. Classes limited to three participants per session. There is a fee for the course.

• Science Camp will be held at 6 p.m. beginning Oct. 15 and held for four Tuesdays. The series is open to students in grades four to eight. Reservations are required. Participants will learn about building bridges, balloon powered vehicles and more in this series with Cathy Seachrist of Super Science & Amazing Art of PA. There is a fee for the series.

• The Stitch, Tamaqua’s Premier Performance Hall, will present Fooling Ourselves, a STYX tribute band at 7 p.m. on Saturday Tickets are on sale now. Fooling Ourselves is a new project from the members of Know Return - A Tribute to Kansas.

• Fall String Art with Just String Around will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 9. You can choose one of four available designs. Tickets are required.

• A Fall Stained Glass Workshop with Marykay Citera will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 12. A variety of designs are available. Only six seats available for this course. Additional classes will be held at 10 a.m. on Nov. 17 and 6 p.m. Dec. 11. All tools as well as step-by-step instruction are provided in ticket price. Learn how to use a soldering iron, clippers, grinders, foil and more to work with glass.

• An intermediate photography class with Maritza Reinbold will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Oct. 19. Participants should bring their DSLR cameras with an interchangeable lens. Reservations are required. There is a cost for the course.

• Bark At The Moon, the Ultimate Ozzy Tribute Show, will take over The Stitch on Oct. 19. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins with local rock artists Rude Groove opening for the band at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale now. All ages are welcome. Adults over 21 can bring alcohol.

• A Fun Addition to Any Decor! with instructor Amy Mogish will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23. The ticket includes one 12-inch by 8-inch prepared wood canvas, paper hat and pattern. Payment should be made payable to Amy Mogish at 16 Meadow Ave., Tamaqua, PA 18252 or can be purchased online at www.classicamyjoanne.com.
