Due to the powerful thunderstorms that rolled through the area on Tuesday, a number of local sporting events were affected.

The District 11 Track and Field Championships, which are being held in Whitehall, were originally scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. The district made the decision on Tuesday to move the two-day event to Wednesday and Thursday.

Also, the Colonial League semifinal baseball game between Northwestern and Southern Lehigh was suspended after two innings of play. The Tigers were trailing 4-0 when the contest, being played at Parkland, was halted. The two teams will pick up where they left off today at 4 p.m.

In addition to those two events, Tamaqua’s regular season baseball game with Minersville was also suspended. The Blue Raiders were leading 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning. That game will resume on Thursday.
