Slatington fills vacant committee position

The Slatington Borough Council met Monday night and appointed a person to fill a seat on the five-member Police Pension Committee. The seat was held by Councilman Russell Hallman, who passed away in December.

The council unanimously appointed Ronald Hausman to the position. Hausman is the borough’s Emergency Management director and a longtime member of the Slatington Fire Company.

“He’s been a dedicated volunteer in the borough for years,” Council President Daniel Stevens said.

“I help the community where I can,” Hausman said. “I get asked for many things and there are times I can help, and times I can’t.”

Hausman said he began volunteering as a junior firefighter with Vigilant Fire Company in Slatington. He went on to volunteer at the Slatington Fire Company for 43 years, and served as its fire chief in 1976. He also served in the emergency medical services for almost 30 years.

“I just look at how to help the community out,” he said.

The Police Pension Committee meets once a year. Their next meeting will be at noon on April 30 at the borough building on Walnut Street.
