Several injured in West Penn crash

Several people were injured Saturday afternoon,  including a child, in a crash in West Penn Township.

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Route 443 and Mill Drive. It appeared a sport utility vehicle pulled from Mill Drive into the path of a car traveling east on Route 443.

The car came to rest on the lot of Ag – Industrial while the SUV came to rest in the center of the roadway. West Penn firefighters used the Jaws to extricate the victims from the SUV. The victims were treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to area trauma centers.

West Penn township police are investigating the incident.
