Schuylkill senior services bolstered

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging has allocated additional funding to Schuylkill County, which will benefit its senior citizens.

Additional funding was allocated to the Apprise Regional Program, with Schuylkill County able to increase its contract with Diakon Child, Family and Community Ministries, Middletown, by $181,140. The moneys will be used for senior community center services, congregate meals, health and wellness, in-home meal delivery and other services.

Another $49,396 from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging will be used to contractor Benefits Data Trust, Philadelphia, to conduct outreach for Medicare Part D low-income subsidies, to support referrals and applications for programs such as supplemental nutrition assistance and property tax/rent rebate.

During a meeting Wednesday, the Schuylkill County Commissioners also approved:

Renewal of the insurance policy with Midwest Employers Casualty Co. for excess workers’ compensation costs at an annual cost of $109,997. The renewal is for 2020 and 2021.

Authorized the Schuylkill County Visitors Bureau to do business as Explore Schuylkill, and to file necessary paperwork to register the fictitious name with the Pennsylvania Department of State.

Approved a contract with Docuscript for medical transcription services for the Coroner’s Office at a cost of $600-$700 per year.

Approved a contract with Moleculardx LLC, for toxicology services as required by the Coroner’s Office, on a fee schedule.
