Schuylkill driver facing hit-and-run charge

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of hit-and-run following a crash that occurred at 7:51 a.m. Sunday along Route 901 in Cass Township.

State police at Frackville said Steven J. Brilla, 25, of Pottsville, was driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue southbound when he failed to negotiate a right curve in the road.

His vehicle traveled into the northbound lane where it struck a 2006 Hummer H3 operated by Christine A. Shipe, 56, of Minersville, on the driver’s side.

After impact, the Hummer spun counterclockwise 90 degrees and came to rest in the northbound lane.

After impact, the Rogue continued south for about 100 yards before coming to final rest along the south shoulder.

Troopers said Brilla then ran off into a wooded area north of the Minersville Fish & Game Club. He was pursued and later identified and admitted his involvement. Shipe was not injured.

Both vehicles had to be towed.

Troopers said Brilla was cited for a motor vehicle code violation of duty to give information and render aid.
