Schuylkill County State Park events

The following events are planned for Locust Lake and Tuscarora state parks in Barnesville, Schuylkill County.

• On Friday, naturalist Robin Tracey from Tuscarora will lead a hike at the Riverlands in Berwick. The trail is 5 miles long and easy. The trail runs next to the Susquehanna River, two ponds and large wetland area. It is a great place to look for summer wildflowers and critters.

Meet at the Tuscarora park visitor center at 9:30 a.m. to carpool or at the Riverlands Education building at 634 Salem Blvd., Berwick, at 10:30 a.m. Bring a lunch and water. Dogs are not allowed.

Call Tracey at 570-467-2506 for more information. Shine only.

• On July 6, conservation volunteer Dave McSurdy will present a program at the Locust Lake shelter, located near the camp store, at 5 p.m. He will speak about different native plants of the state and how they can be used for medicinal reasons.

The program will be followed by a short walk to identify some of these plants. Shine only.
