Schuylkill County Court

A Lansford man arrested on a DUI/controlled substance charge was sentenced to 6 months to 5 years in Schuylkill County Prison, in a ruling by Schuylkill County Judge John Domalakes May 8.

Lewis L. Searfoss

, 45, was arrested May 19, 2018, by Coaldale Police Officer Thomas Sabulsky. His sentence is to run concurrent with sentenced imposed in Carbon County. Searfoss must also pay a fine of $1,500, and undergo an 18-month license suspension, followed by 12 months ignition interlock. He must pay $400 restitution to Lehigh Valley Health Network, $150 to the MCARE fund and $100 to the substance abuse education fund. He must complete the alcohol highway safety school and 6-8 months outpatient substance abuse treatment, and perform 20 hours of community service.

On May 8 Domalakes imposed a 24-month probation period for Samuel C. Smolar

, 29, Tamaqua, who was arrested Sept. 11, 2018, by Rush Township Police Chief Ken Zipovsky and charged with simple assault. Smolar must pay $50 a month supervision fee. Charges of strangulation and harassment were dropped.

Latia T. Nahf

, 26, Tamaqua, was sentenced to a state prison term of six to 24 months, in a ruling by Domalakes on May 13. Nahf was arrested June 26, 2018, by Rush Township Police officer Ryan Oldt, and charged with intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered and use/possession of drug paraphernalia. On the controlled substance possession charge, Nahf must pay $113 to the Harrisburg Crime Lab and $100 to the substance abuse education fund. He will be on probation for six months after his release, and must perform 10 hours community service.

Angelo V. Maldonado

, 29, West Hazleton, was sentenced to 30 to 60 days in county prison, in a ruling by Domalakes May 13. Maldonado was arrested March 13, 2018, by Tamaqua Police Office Michael Weaver and charges with use/possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while operator’s privileges are suspended or revoked. Maldonado must pay a fine of $1,000, $50 to the criminal justice enhancement act, $100 to the substance abuse education fund, and $77 in additional fines and costs. He will be on probation for 12 months.
