Police investigate suspicious pressure cooker; no threat found

A state police bomb squad responded to a Monroe County gas station Wednesday night after someone found a suspicious-looking pressure cooker beneath a truck. They determined it was empty.

Troopers were called to a gas station at the Giant food store on Route 611 in Bartonsville around 6 p.m. for a suspicious package.

A pressure cooker was located underneath a box truck and appeared suspicious.

Troopers with the state police’s Hazardous Device Explosives Section responded and determined that the pressure cooker was empty.

Pressure cookers have been used as improvised explosive devices by terrorists including the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and a 2016 attack in New York City that left 29 people injured.

State police said they are investigating the incident.
