Palmerton Scout awarded Eagle pin

Jarrett William Tyler Long, son of Scott and Heather (Lawall) Long of Palmerton, was awarded his Eagle Scout pin at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Sept. 30.

Jarrett joined Cub Scout pack 209 in second grade as a Wolf, and achieved the “Arrow of Light” before crossing over to Boy Scout Troop 209 in sixth grade.

Jarrett became a member of the “Order of the Arrow,” the National Honor Society of Boy Scouts, during his scouting career.

As a life Scout, Jarrett chose his Eagle Scout project to renovate Beltzville State Park’s amphitheater under the guidance of “The Friends of Beltzville,” a nonprofit organization whose mission is to make Beltzville great again.

In attendance at Jarrett’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor were friends and family, fellow Scouts and leaders, as well as Carbon County Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard and state Rep. Doyle Heffley, who both awarded Jarrett with citations for attaining the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Jarrett gave a single red rose to his paternal grandmothers, Dottie Daubert and Charlotte Long, as well as two white roses that remained in a vase on the altar in loving memory of Jarrett’s grandparents William and Judith Lawall.

After pinning his parents with miniature Eagle pins, Jarrett gave mentor pins, first to his father, Scott Long, who has guided Jarrett through scouting as a volunteer Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, as well as to Connie Bartholomew, a former committee member of Troop 209, and to Kelly George, a former committee chair of Troop 209.

Jarrett is currently a freshman at Bloomsburg University majoring in biology.
