Palmerton library to host anime club meeting
Palmerton Area Library will host its first anime club meeting on Tuesday.
Anime is a form of cartoon animation originating from Japan. Rachel DeMicco, programs administrator, said the idea for the club actually came from teens’ suggestions. The library will be using Crunchyroll, an anime streaming service, and is open for 13- to 18-year-olds.
For its first meeting on Aug. 20, members will meet at the library at 6:30 p.m. Starting in September, meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of the month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
DeMicco said flicks featured in the club will spotlight stories and characters that differ from those shown in American television and films.
“I think it’s going to be cool to explore some of those differences,” she said. “I’m excited about it.”
The library staff will screen content before showings. The films and shows will generally stay within a PG or PG-13 rating scale.
Parents need to fill out a one-time permission slip — which can be picked up in the library or downloaded from its Facebook page — for their children to participate.
