NJ man charged with assaulting girlfriend

A New Jersey man who is charged with choking his girlfriend has had his case continued.

Kyle Scerbo, 22, of Hopatcong, faces charges on one count each of strangulation, simple assault and harassment by physical contact.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Adam Shimer of the Palmerton Police Department:

On the night of Sept. 3, Shimer was dispatched to the 200 block of Harvard Avenue for a domestic incident.

The victim told police she got into an altercation with her boyfriend, Scerbo.

The victim said that while trying to obtain custody of mailbox keys, Scerbo pushed her twice, knocking her to the ground.

With the victim on the ground, Scerbo placed his hands around her neck and choked her.

The victim also complained of an injury to the back of her head as a result of the fall.

Shimer noticed redness and swelling on the victim’s neck and arms.

Scerbo is free after posting 10 percent of $20,000 bail.

Scerbo was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Wednesday before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.

However, the hearing has been continued until a later date.
