Nesquehoning VFW auxiliary meets

The regular monthly meeting of the auxiliary to Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008 was held on Sept. 10, with President Christa Kattner presiding.

General Orders 2 were read and filed for action.

A 911 Remembrance Ceremony was held on Sept. 11, with the blessing of emergency vehicles following the program.

The Hometown Heroes project for this year will hopefully be completed by the end of the month. Applications are still being accepted for next year, without the picture or check, and will be done as poles are approved. The banners have been well-received throughout the community.

Historian Maureen Hirochek is asking members for printed pictures throughout this year, beginning with Installation of Officers in May, for a project she is doing.

Several members weekly receive an email from National regarding veterans’ issues and have been acting on their behalf. Information on the scholarship programs will be given to the schools, with a revised deadline this year of Oct. 31. Membership currently stands at 67 percent; members are reminded that dues are now payable for the year 2018.

The auxiliary is participating in the Boscov’s “Friends Helping Friends” program; coupon for the Oct. 17 sale day are available from members. The Paint and Sip was held on Sept. 22.

Poppy Days at Redner’s will be Nov. 3 and 4.

Nesquehoning will be hosting the annual Carbon County Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 5, beginning at 2 p.m.

A donation was made to the Homeless Veterans Program.

District 20 met on Sept. 17 at Northampton; three members attended the session. Department President Kelley Lepak made her official visit to the district.

The next regular meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 8.
