Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary holds meeting

The regular monthly meeting of the VFW Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial Post 8008 was held on Feb. 16 at the Post Home, with President Christa Kattner presiding at the session.

General Orders 7 were read and filed for action. Thank yous were received from Toys for Tots, Yenser’s Tree Farm and the VFW National Home. Communication was also received from Family Promise of Carbon County and the VFW National Home.

A bloodmobile collection was held at the Post Home on Valentine’s Day. Several members reported service hours in the community. Forty-four cards were sent by members present under Veterans and Family Support. The Hometown Heroes Banner Program will be starting up for this year.

Those whose applications were received past year who are on the waiting list will be contacted by a committee member in the very near future. The auxiliary currently stands four members short of 100 percent in membership. District 20 recently surpassed 100 percent in membership. A district meeting was held on Feb. 18, hosted by Tobyhanna.

The annual Easter egg hunt will be held at noon on March 24. A sign-up sheet is located at the Post Home; all must be preregistered.

Buddy Poppy weekend at Redner’s will be held May 4-6.

Donations were made to the Department Flag Fund; Department Arthritis Fund; “Let’s Talk” awards program; Family Promise and the VFW National Home Emergency Notification System.

A date and time will be set up to do the year-end reports before the end of March.

It was suggested the auxiliary earmark funds to purchase a new flag for parades and display. The current banner is almost 20 years old, showing signs of wear and outdated since it still carries the VFW Ladies Auxiliary logo, which was changed to VFW Auxiliary two years ago when men were welcomed into the organization. Further discussion and planning will be done at the next meeting.

The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 16 at the Post Home. All members are invited to attend.
