A Nesquehoning man faces charges after he lied to police about a man threatening him with a hammer.

Carl Royer, 59, of West Catawissa Street, called Nesquehoning police just before 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 5, saying he was threatened by a man with a hammer inside his place of employment. The report states Royer said the man’s wife gave him the hammer and the man then confronted Royer about an incident involving his wife.

Two other employees also provided statements of the incident.

Police requested surveillance footage from the business and contacted the couple who allegedly threatened Royer. They admitted having words with Royer because he had been coming to the wife’s place of employment and harassing her, but denied making any threats against Royer or having a hammer during the confrontation.

Surveillance footage showed the man never had a hammer during the confrontation and Royer then admitted he made it up because he just wanted to get the man arrested because he didn’t like how he spoke to him.

Royer faces two counts of filing a false police report.
