Nesquehoning council discusses street sweeping, recycling

Street sweeping, recycling and electronics recycling were all topics of discussion in Nesquehoning Wednesday night.

Street sweeping

Borough council announced that there would be four days of street sweeping next week due to the town being owed four days from earlier this year when it rented the sweeper and it broke.

The tentative schedule is on Monday, the south side of Catawissa Street, Tuesday and Wednesday, the New Columbus area and Oct. 3, the fire companies and any other areas that were identified as needing sweeping.

Streets will be posted ahead of the sweeping.

Recycling

Council also reminds residents that recycling in the borough begins on Oct. 7 in Lake Hauto and Oct. 8 in town. The pickups after that will be every other week.

Recyclables can be placed in any type of can or receptacle marked recycling or clear plastic bag, as long as collection crews can see the items. No black trash bags will be taken during the collections.

All recyclables should be out at the curb before 5 a.m. on collection day.

Accepted recycling items include white envelopes; computer, fax or copy paper; magazines and catalogs; phone books; paperback books; newspaper; cardboard; junk mail; green, clear or brown glass bottles; tin or bimetallic containers; aluminum cans; and plastic containers marked 1 through 7.
