Monroe driver facing charges

A Monroe County driver is facing charges, including drunken driving and fleeing the scene of an crash, following an incident on Wednesday at 6:39 p.m. along Route 940 at Plaza Drive in Pocono Summit.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said officers were on patrol when they observed a vehicle off the roadway at the above stated intersection. The driver of the vehicle, Makenzie Erlsten, told the officers she was turning onto Plaza Drive when a truck struck her vehicle, then went across Route 940 into a yard. The driver of the truck got out and took off.

Police ran the registration information on the truck and determined it was owned by Matthew Dunham, 28, of the 4000 block of Winter Court, Pocono Pines. K-9 Unit Hilo then conducted a track from the truck through Stillwater Lakes and to Roberto’s Restaurant along Route 940. Police went into the restaurant and found Dunham hiding in the back of the kitchen. He resisted arrest, but was taken into custody. He was found to be intoxicated and taken to the county prison for a blood draw.

He is facing DUI and various other charges, police said.
