Marian grad Malarkey earns All-American honors

Ryan Malarkey recently was among three Muhlenberg players named to All-America teams released by Associated Press and D3football.com. The former Marian standout earned spots on the AP second team and D3football.com third team.

Malarkey earned the first All-America nods of his career, becoming the first Mule offensive lineman on the D3football.com team since Chris Radomski in 2003 and the first on the AP squad since Dave Pfund in 1987.

Malarkey was a unanimous All-CC first-team selection and a “coach on the field” for an offense that averaged 38.4 points and 420.7 yards per game. A three-year starter at right tackle, Malarkey scored high grades every week and allowed only one sack all season. He led a line that gave up only 11 sacks.

The D3football.com All-America team was announced prior to the Stagg Bowl, in which North Central defeated Wis.-Whitewater, 41-14, to win its first national championship. North Central advanced to the Stagg with a 45-14 semifinal win against Muhlenberg, ending the Mules’ historic season with a 13-1 record.

Defensive end Frankie Feaster and tight end Ryan Curtiss also were recognized for their play. Feaster was a first-team selection on both teams. Curtiss was named to the AP first team and D3football.com third team.

It’s the first time the Mules have had three representatives on either the AP or D3football.com teams. Muhlenberg did have three selections on one All-America team, the now-defunct Division III SIDs team, in 2000.
