Mahoning Valley Fire Co. plans celebration Saturday

Mahoning Valley Fire Company will host its fourth annual Celebration of Community from noon to dusk on Saturday.

Lt. Neal Ebbert said, “The purpose is to give back to the community in appreciation for what it does for us. The community, through donations, supports everything we do.”

The Celebration of Community will feature an old-fashioned carnival, its annual “Cornfield Classic” coaster race, chicken and pork barbecues, other foods, games for youngsters, games of chance and an open house.

Ebbert said there also will be three bounce houses for children, one of them with a 24-foot slide.

The coaster race will begin at noon and be coordinated by Rocky Arner.

New this year will be a basket raffle, with already about 80 baskets donated. Ebbert said he expects as many as 100 baskets to be included in the event.

Fire Chief Mark Ebbert said, “We’re a focal part of the community, so we’re trying to get everybody together socially. It’s an old-fashioned carnival.”

Trophies for the coaster race will be presented during a ceremony at 5 p.m.

Ebbert said a section of Mahoning Drive West in the area of the fire company will be closed during the coaster race.
