Three members of the Mahoning Township Lions Club were recently honored at their monthly meeting for serving over 150 combined years to the community.

Ronald Connor was inducted into the club on Oct. 23, 1979.

A retired speech therapist at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, he participates in all fundraisers, club activities, organizes and participated in preparing all summer meals, and contributes in all commodities to the club. Connor has been an active member for 40-plus years and currently serves on the club’s board of directors and was past president.

David E. Hontz was inducted on Jan. 23, 1968. A retired founder and past president of Hontz Oil Company, Lehighton, he participates in all fundraisers, club activities and contributes in any way possible to the club. A Korean War veteran, he has been an active member for 50-plus years, currently serving as the tail twister and past club president.

Thomas A. Zimmerman Jr. was inducted on Jan. 13, 1959. President of Zimmerman’s Dairy Inc. in Lehighton, he participates in all fundraisers, club activities and contributes to all functions in the club. The last surviving charter member, he is a former EMT volunteer, Eagle Scout and former Scoutmaster of Troop 106, Mahoning Township. Serving for 60 plus years, he currently serves as chaplain and past club president.

The Mahoning Township Lions Club sponsors numerous projects benefiting the community throughout the year such as: managing and maintaining the Normal Square Chapel youth soccer field, pavilion and grounds, supports all local food banks, provides eyeglasses to people in need throughout the community, contributes to local fire companies and ambulance, Carbon County Fair and local 4-H Clubs, bingo for Lehighton hi-rise residents, Mahoning Valley War Memorial, leader dog for the blind program, Weatherly Cabbage Festival, Lehighton Library and annual rabies clinics.
