Mahoning approves tax hike

Mahoning Township Supervisors approved the 2019 budget during their meeting Wednesday and homeowners will have to pay a little more next year.

The budget is balanced with income and expenditures listed at $2,936,526.

Included in the budget is a tax increase of 0.75 mills, increasing the property tax rate to 5.75 mills.

That means that a homeowner with a home assessed at $100,000 will pay about $75 more next year.

The majority of the taxes are allocated to the general fund at 4.5 mills. The fire department and road machine funds are at 0.5 mill, while the building and land fund is at 0.75 mill.

One mill in Mahoning Township is approximately $60 per property.

The supervisors also approved a resolution setting the tax rate for 2019.

Other matters

In other business, the supervisors are in the initial planning stages of a municipal building construction project.

Supervisors also took the following actions:

• Switched payroll provider to Jetpay, costing the township $500 more per year for payroll and time clock services.

• Approved time extensions for the Summit Ridge and Sage Meadows development agreements.

• Agreed to advertise the 2019 meeting dates and times. Meetings remain 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month with minor adjustments for holidays.
