LV Soccer Scholar Athlete banquet held

Easton center midfielder Bethany Hall and Emmaus center back Callen Reid were named the 2018 Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athletes on Sunday at the annual awards banquet in Northampton.

Eighty Lehigh Valley soccer scholar athletes were honored at the Northampton Memorial Community Center.

Brittney Ruggieri, founder of WPSL franchise, the Lehigh Valley Tempest, was the guest speaker.

The Times News area was represented by 15 scholar athletes. Following are photos and bios for all the area honorees.

JIM THORPE

Brielle Long

Long has played varsity soccer for four years and served as a captain her final season. She was also involved with the Jim Thorpe Youth Soccer program.

She serves as treasurer for the school’s Future Business Leaders of America program, serves as Vice President of the school’s National Honor Society and is her Class Secretary.

Long plans to study marketing in college.

She is the daughter of Matt and Connie Long.

Rhyder Wallace

Wallace has played varsity soccer all four years and served as a captain his final season. He was a 2018 All-Schuylkill League first team selection and a 2017 All-League second team selection. He was also involved with the game with West End Soccer, Keystone Athletic and Carbon United.

He is a member of the school’s National Honor Society.

Wallace plans to become a Physician’s Assistant.

He is the son of Ty and Heather Wallace.

LEHIGHTON

Alexandria Hydro

Hydro has played varsity soccer for three years and is a member of the Carbon United program. She also played for the Lehighton Soccer Club.

She serves as the treasurer for the school’s Future Business Leaders of America program and is a member of the Family Career and Community Leaders of America.

Hydro plans to study finance at Florida State University.

She is the daughter of Randy and Linda Hydro.

Victor McCandless

McCandless was a member of the Indians’ varsity team for the last two years and a was a member of the Lehighton Soccer program.

He plans to study Engineering at York College.

He is the son of Dale and Jacqueline McCandless.

NORTHERN LEHIGH

Molly Wilk

Wilk has played varsity soccer for two years and was a member of the Northern Lehigh Youth Athletic Association.

She serves as secretary for both her senior class and the school’s Student Council.

Wilk plans to study actuarial science.

She is the daughter of Charles and Kristie Wilk.

Quinton Mack

Mack has played varsity soccer all four years and was also involved with Northern Lehigh Youth Athletic Association.

He plans to enlist in the Air Force.

He is the son of Ed and Melissa Mack.

NORTHWESTERN

Allyson Hinks

Hinks has played varsity soccer for two years. She was also involved with NYAA and LMYAA Track over the years.

She is the school’s National Honor Society Treasurer and a member of Student Council.

Hinks plans to study forensic science at Penn State University.

She is the daughter of Matthew and Corrina Hinks.

Zachary Creighton

Creighton has played varsity soccer for three years. This year, he was the Tigers’ Captain, was All-Colonial League First Team. Creighton is also playing for Western Lehigh United team.

He is the school’s National Honor Society President and serves as his Class Vice President.

Creighton plays to study actuarial science.

He is the son of Thomas and Suzzanne Creighton.

PALMERTON

Mia Fantasia

Fantasia was a member of the Bombers’ varsity squad for all four years of high school. She was a captain this season. She was a member of the Towamensing Soccer Club and plays for Carbon United.

She is very active in school activities as she is the Student Council Treasurer, Art Club Vice President, and a member of the Leo Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Environmental Club.

Fantasia plans to study architecture at Penn State University.

She is the daughter of Dominick and Annette Fantasia.

Chase Dailey

Dailey played varsity soccer for two years and played five years of Club soccer.

He is a member of the school’s Art Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Student Council.

Dailey plans to study psychology.

He is the son of Denise Buchanan.

PLEASANT VALLEY

Kelly Whalen

Whalen was involved with the Bears’ varsity soccer programs for three years. She also played for Keystone Athletic, West End Soccer and is a member of the track team,

She is a member of the school’s National Honor Society.

Whalen plans to study elementary education at Penn State Berks.

She is the daughter of Gail Whalen.

Jack Robinson

Robinson was involved with the Bears’ varsity soccer program for two years. He was this year’s team captain.

He is a member of the school’s National Honor Society and serves as the Math Club’s Vice Present.

Robinson plans to study engineering at Lehigh or Lafayette.

He is the son of Ken and Diane Robinson.

TAMAQUA

Jacob Rudy

Rudy was a member of the Blue Raiders’ varsity team for all four years of high school. He was an All-Schuylkill League First Team selection the last two years. He is a member of the Blue Raiders’ track team.

He is the school’s National Honor Society President and is the Student Government Vice President. He is a member of the Blue Raiders’ band and is an Eagle Scout.

Rudy plans to play college soccer and study nursing at Misericordia University. He is the son of Frank and Kristine Rudy.

WEATHERLY

Nicole Gordon

Gordon was a three years varsity player for the Wreckers. She also ran cross country for Weatherly and is a member of the track team.

She is a member of the school’s National Honor Society and Interact Club.

Gordon plans to study cyber security at Bloomsburg University.

She is the daughter of Glenn and Jacqueline Gordon.

Ryan Fairchild

Fairchild was a two-year varsity player for the Wreckers. He served as a team captain this year.

He serves as his Class President and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Fairchild plans to attend Shippensburg University and continue to chiropractor school.

He is the son of James and Jenny Fairchild.
