A look back: March 15, 1972

The Container Corporation of America announced today it will close down its plastic egg carton plant, which is located in Nesquehoning, effective March 31.

Louis Archer, plant manager, said he received word from Jerome Heisler, vice president of the corporation, to this effect. The reason the plant is being shut down, Archer reports, is the corporation had decided to discontinue manufacturing plastic egg cartons.

The plastics division in Nesquehoning is one of 85 other plants owned by the corporation in the United States.

The local shutdown affects some 58 hourly employees.

The plant has been in operation here since 1968.
