Besides their large selection of groceries, Country Harvest in Palmerton offers a new line of Christmas cactus to bring your thoughts on a cold day to the heat of the desert. Nearly maintenance free, a couple drops of water a week and just watch it grow. The store also sells snack baskets that would be great gifts for your favorite couch potatoes who hibernate through the winter in front of the television.

Shea’s Hardware in Palmerton has a vast assortment of hand and power tools and paints for those indoor do-it-yourself projects. They also carry small furniture, cabinets, and decorative items for the home. Check out the storewide sale that ends at Christmas.

You never know what you’ll find at Big Lots in the Carbon Plaza. Take your pick of Christmas clearance items, toys, gift packs and more.

Stop in at The Jokers Are Wild Game Café in Lehighton. Take the chill off with a homemade gourmet grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of one of their specialty teas. Try one of their delicious coffee shots in black cherry, hazelnut, Bavarian chocolate, peppermint, raspberry or vanilla for just 50 cents apiece. While you’re there you have one hour to free yourself from the Escape Room at three different levels of difficulty or play any one of their collection of classic board games that include Sorry, Monopoly, Risk and Pictionary. You can also sign up for one of their card game tournaments.

“We are open until midnight on Friday and Saturday night,” said co-owner Tonia Schaeffer. “There’s not much to do in town on weekends and we get quite a few gamers who come in late at night.”

Board games and miniature figures from Dungeons and Dragons and other popular collectibles are for sale.
