Lehighton woman faces DUI charges after crash

A Lehighton woman faces charges after a crash this summer.

Kimberly Knight, 47, also faces charges on two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, and one count each of recklessly endangering another person, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, careless driving and reckless driving. She also faces of endangering the welfare of children.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Brittany Naylor of the Pennsylvania State Police Fern Ridge barracks:

At 3:40 p.m. Aug. 1, Naylor was dispatched to a report of a crash on Frantz Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Naylor arrived on scene and observed the Knight’s vehicle, a black 2003 GMC Envoy off the right side of Frantz Road with its front end into a tree.

Naylor saw front-end damage to Knight’s vehicle, and saw Knight standing outside her vehicle.

Police said her speech was slurred and she was off balance and swaying.

Knight denied consuming any alcohol that day, though she did admit to taking lorazepam, which she is not supposed to be taking while operating a vehicle.

Field sobriety tests were conducted on Knight, and the results of the test showed signs of impairment.

Knight was transported to the Monroe County Correctional Facility to submit to a chemical blood test.

The test confirmed that lorazepam and metroprolol was in Knight’s bloodstream.
