To raise awareness and spotlight suicide prevention, Lehigh Carbon Community College has partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to sponsor an Out of the Darkness campus walk on April 6 on the Schnecksville campus.

Suicide in the Lehigh Valley has one of the highest rates in Pennsylvania.

Suicide was the 10th overall leading cause of death nationwide in 2018. One life is lost to suicide every 40 seconds.

Individuals who have been impacted by suicide, as well as people who want to learn how they can make a difference are invited to participate.

Community organizations have been invited to walk and to set up information tables.

Check-in starts at 10 a.m. in the Community Services Center. The walk begins at 11 a.m. The route will take walkers around the rural Schnecksville campus. Fee to sign up is $10.

All proceeds from the walk will go to the Lehigh Valley chapter of AFSP, supporting research, educational programs, public policy changes and support for survivors of suicide loss.
