Lansford praises parade organizers

Lansford borough officials had high praise for the organizers of the Carbon County Veterans Day parade, which returned to the borough last weekend.

“God bless the veterans,” said Councilwoman Marie Ondrus.

During the monthly meeting Wednesday night, members of borough council thanked the organizers, as well as volunteers from the borough who helped put the event together.

“It was just a really good thing for the borough that day — to see the energy, and how people were just very satisfied walking around,” council President Jared Soto said.

Under sunny skies, the five-division parade stepped off Sunday. All five Carbon County high school bands — Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe, Palmerton, Lehighton and Weatherly — marched in the parade.

Lansford native Joey Nichols, a Marine veteran, was grand marshal.

Borough road crew workers and firefighters volunteered their time, and police all worked together to create a successful parade, Soto said.

“Everybody was working in unison and doing something really good to pay tribute to our veterans. I thought it was a very well-received event,” Soto said.

Councilman Joseph Butrie also gave credit to those who participated in making the parade a success.

“The public works, police department, everyone who made it work, thank you,” he said.

Councilman Bob Silver said based on the success of the Veterans Day Parade, he would like to see the borough restart the tradition of Halloween parades and festivities.
