Lansford police have accused a man of attempting to strangle a woman during a verbal argument.

Marc David Lerario, 28, of East Patterson Street, allegedly used his elbow to hold a woman down, causing breathing difficulty.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 7.

The woman came to the police station to report that Lerario assaulted her. Police saw red marks on her neck and face.

They then met with Lerario at the East Patterson Street address. They observed he was visibly intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. Lerario said there was an argument, but denied the assault.

He was arrested and charged with strangulation, assault, and harassment.

Lerario is currently being held at Carbon County Correctional Facility on $2,500 bail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 15.
