Lady Panthers rally past Olympians

The Panther Valley girls basketball team earned a come-from-behind win against Jim Thorpe on Monday. The Lehighton, Northern Lehigh, Marian and Northwestern girls basketball teams also picked up victories.

In boys basketball action, Palmerton and Northern Lehigh grabbed wins.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley edged Jim Thorpe for a 38-37 Schuylkill League win.

The Lady Panthers outscored the Olympians 10-4 in the final session to pull off the come-from-behind win.

Molly Sheridan and Erika Dubosky both tallied 10 points apiece for PV.

Payton Kovac amassed a game-high 19 points for Jim Thorpe.

Lehighton picked up a 45-34 Schuylkill League Division I victory over Blue Mountain.

Skylynn Faust scored a game-high 24 points for the Indians. Emily Miller added nine points.

Marian-Lourdes Regional

Emily Shaud hit seven of nine free throws in the fourth frame to lift Marian to a 38-35 Schuylkill League victory over Lourdes Regional.

Shaud led all scorers on the evening with 17 points for the Fillies.

Selina Albert had 16 for the Red Raiders.

Marian also prevailed in the JV contest, taking the 40-28 preliminary game.

Northern Lehigh placed four players in double figures to defeat Saucon Valley in Colonial League action, 62-49.

The ‘Dawgs saw Jill Olewine and Jada Saeger both total 16 points, while Lauren Hoffman added 15 and Kate Ziegler had 14.

For the Panthers, Brooke Riefenstahl and Hellen Krescholler both totaled 14 points in the loss.

Northwestern outlasted Notre Dame of Green Pond to pick up a 44-43 Colonial League win.

Leading the Tigers in scoring was Abigail Chisdak with nine points, while Leighanna Lister added eight.

For the Lady Crusaders, Natalie Galle led all scorers with a game-high 17 points.

Pottsville also won the JV contest, 27-16.

Northern Lehigh erased an early deficit to claim a 64-47 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

The Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 24-5 in the final quarter to pull out the win.

Gio Colon recorded a game-high 18 points for Northern Lehigh, while Preston Kemery (15), Brandon Hess (13) and Nick Seier (12) also scored in double figures.

For the Panthers, Sean Cyphers scored 17 points.

North Schuylkill upended Panther Valley, 35-31.

Bryson Heydt scored nine point to lead the Panthers.

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua edged Jim Thorpe in a down-to-the-wire finish, taking a 31-28 win.

Steve Hoffman had 12 points to lead Tamaqua.

Jim Thorpe’s Dave Richards scored 10.

Weatherly-Shenandoah

In a combined, seventh and eighth grade game, Weatherly defeated Shenandoah Valley, 48-39.

Frank Willis scored 11 points for the Wreckers, and teammate Tanner Hinkle added 10.

7TH GRADE

Panther Vy.-Weatherly

Panther Valley defeated Weatherly by a 42-23 outcome recently.

The Panthers were led in scoring by Brad Hood with 17 points, while Cody Orsulak added seven.

Weatherly’s Tom Chapman had five in the loss.
