Keer named first team MEC All-Star

Shepherd University’s Daniel Keer was recently named to the Mountain East Conference baseball all-star team.

Keer, a Marian graduate and the 2017 Times News Baseball Player of the Year, was selected as the first team designated hitter.

Shepherd dominated the first team, placing seven players on the squad that was selected from the conference’s 10 teams. The first team was made up of 11 hitters and five pitchers. Six of the hitters were from a Shepherd squad that finished first in the MEC East Division and compiled a 35-14 regular season mark and a 24-6 conference record.

Keer, a sophomore, has a .340 batting average, a .411 on base percentage and a .489 slugging percentage. He has played in 39 games, going 32-for-94 at the plate with 10 extra base hits, 24 runs scored and 20 RBI.

Shepherd, an Division 2 school located in West Virginia, is participating in the MEC playoffs this weekend, looking to earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament.
