JT tennis nabs school record 14th win

Jim Thorpe set a school record for victories in a season on Tuesday, breaking the mark of 13 it set just one year earlier.

GIRLS TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Allen

Jim Thorpe capped the regular season with a 6-1 victory over William Allen.

With the win, the Olympians set a school record for wins in a season, as they finish at 14-4 overall.

The Olympians’ trio of Christy McLean, Kaitlyn O’Neil and Trista Gehris all went on to score a sweep of singles play.

VOLLEYBALL

Panther Valley knocked off Jim Thorpe for a 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 Schuylkill League victory.

The Panthers’ Jenna Dubosky recorded 19 assists, nine digs and eight kills, while Erika Duboksy followed with nine kills, seven digs and three aces. Olivia Dacey (12 digs, eight kills) and Lyddia Malaska (seven digs, six kills) also played well for Panther Valley.

Brandy Montemuro led the Olympians with 13 digs and seven kills, while Abbey McGinley finished with 14 digs.

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Lehighton came out on top with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-9 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Alyssa Frey paced the Indians with 17 assists, seven kills and two aces. Sophia Salerno added six aces, six digs and four kills; Allison Reph chipped in with eight aces and seven digs; and Hailey Miller contributed 11 digs and two aces.

Brynn Gigli led the Blue Raiders with five assists, four aces, four digs and two kills, while Kaydee Romig added six digs, two aces and two kills.

Marian-Lourdes

Marian rolled to a 25-11, 25-7, 25-9 Schuylkill League victory over Lourdes Regional.

Several Fillies had strong matches. Ashlyn Kitsch had 25 assists; Alivia Karchner had nine kills and three digs; Jamison Wheeler had seven kills, five aces and three digs; Rebecca Dzurain had five kills; and Lacey Blasko added four kills.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Pleasant Valley defeated Pocono Mountain West for a 25-18, 25-19, 25-21 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Cameron Caffrey paced the Bears with 11 assists, eight digs, six kills and two aces. Also contributing to the win were Deskyn Beade (13 digs, two aces); Ariana Thourot (seven digs, four assists, two aces) and Andrea Crilley (six kills, six digs).

Notre Dame-Northwestern

Notre Dame swept Northwestern, 3-0, in a Colonial League match.

FIELD HOCKEY

Moravian-No. Lehigh

Cassie Romanczuk’s four goals sparked Moravian Academy to a 6-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Teammate Nikki Chiaradia added the other two Lions’ scores.

Lehighton-Nazareth

Karissa Hough’s goal in overtime lifted Lehighton to a 3-2 victory over Nazareth.

Hough finished the game with two goals, while Adriana Hinkle contributed a single score.

Indians’ keeper Angelina Romito finished with seven saves.

Wilson-Palmerton

Molly Mihalko’s hat trick powered Palmerton to a 5-0 Colonial League win over Wilson.

Abby Everett and Ana Recker also scored for the Bombers, while Recker and Emily Baumgardt had assists.

BOYS SOCCER

No. Schuylkill-Lehighton

Lehighton rolled to a 3-0 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

The Indians’ Matt Sofranko scored a first-half goal, while teammates Logan Lucas and Connor Handly added second-half goals. Carter Strauss, AJ Light and Logan Lucas were all credited with assists.

Lehighton keeper Randy Bongiorno finished with six saves to record the shutout.

Northwestern-No. Lehigh

Northwestern cruised to an 8-1 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Jeff Garcia sparked the Tigers’ attack with two goals and an assist, while Josh Zellner ended up with a goal and an assist. Mike Rebert, Jason Blaine, Cayden Fitch, Noah Shupp and Matt Renner all added single scores.

Josh Sollars posted the Bulldogs’ lone goal.

Palmerton-Notre Dame GP

Drew Leary’s goal was all Notre Dame of Green Pond needed to secure a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Crusaders’ Andrew Valentim recorded the assist.

Pine Grove-Tamaqua

Pine Grove edged Tamaqua for a 2-1 Schuylkill League win in double overtime.

Ryne Fisher netted the Blue Raiders’ lone goal, while Tyler Steigerwalt recorded the assist.

Ethan Hannevig posted both Cardinals’ goals.

Nathaniel Noft made 16 saves in goal for the Blue Raiders.

GIRLS SOCCER

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley blanked ES North for a 3-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Teah Cardoza led the Bears (10-3-2; 9-3-1 EPC) with two goals, while Autumn Castro added one score. Larissa Mulligan and Lexi Weaver both recorded assists.

PV keeper Samantha Merklin ended up with two saves to post the shutout victory.

No. Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern ran away with a 6-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
