Clothing collections

The Clothing Ministry of St. John’s Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will be accepting clean, slightly used or new clothing for their annual clothing giveaway until July 12. Items may be dropped off at the church on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesday, 6-8 p.m.; and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They will also be accepting monetary donations to purchase school uniforms and supplies for children. Checks may be made out to St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Heights and cash donations can be given to Mary Strohl or Bonnie Hoffman.

There is also a need for volunteers to help sort the clothing that is received and during the actual giveaway dates. If you are willing to help, please contact Mrs. Strohl, 570-325-2294.

The giveaway dates are Aug. 8 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Aug. 9 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Aug. 10 and 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lunch program

The Jim Thorpe Summer children/family lunch program will be held until July 26, at the Masonic Lodge Social Hall, Fifth and Center St. The meals are served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, and there is no charge. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
