Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Jan. 23 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 51 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “Life is a Snowflake.”

Nancy Gerber was given a warm welcome back.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA. The next meeting is Jan. 30.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church with Holy Communion. Sunday school and confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m.

Activities for the next week include: Wednesday, Feb. 5 worship and music at 4 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 6 angel choir at 6 p.m., shepherd choir at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir at 7:30 p.m.; bell practice will be held at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Calvary Lewistown

The Rev. Ralph Saunders will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m. There will be a Sunday evening service of praise and Bible study at 6:30 p.m.

Prayer meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. Call 570-668-9111 to place prayer requests or praise before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Soup Social

Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., will continue its free monthly soup social on Saturday.

Free soup and fellowship will be available from 4 to 6 p.m.

Participants are asked to use the lower parking lot entrance to the church social hall.

Blood Drive

Masonic Lodge #238, in conjunction with Miller-Keystone, will be holding a bloodmobile on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 7 Shawn Avenue (Route 54) Hometown.

Free film night

Tamaqua area families are invited to a free family film night at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“Toy Story 4” will be shown, and popcorn and other snacks will be provided. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Zion Lutheran is located at the corner of Mauch Chunk and Greenwood streets in Tamaqua.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday Life groups meet at 9:30 a.m. Local outreach and operations commission will meet at noon.

Activities for the next week include: Monday, Women’s step study at 5:30 p.m., Men’s step study at 5:45 p.m., Celebrate recovery at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Junior membership at 6:30 p.m., TYM Remix at 6:30 p.m., worship practice at 8 p.m.; Feb. 6, Coffee and Conversation at 6:30 p.m. at Hope and Coffee, 137 Pine St.: Feb. 7, TYM Remix Winter Retreat.

Diaper Depot

Diaper Depot, a ministry of Zion Lutheran Church in Tamaqua providing free diapers, is accepting requests for its Feb. 15 distribution date.

The program is open to families in the Tamaqua Area School District.

At their first pickup, individuals requesting diapers must provide proof of residence and a birth certificate or some other identification for each child being served. Diaper sizes newborn to size 6 are available for children to age 4.

Diaper distributions will take place by appointment only.

Requests for diapers must be made online www.ziontamaqua.com/diaper-depot by Feb. 12.

All requests will be verified either by phone or email.
