Indians, Tigers, Bears get volleyball wins

Lehighton, Pleasant Valley and Northwestern all picked up volleyball victories on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Lehighton knocked off Tamaqua for a 25-20, 25-15, 25-11 Schuylkill League victory.

Alyssa Frey paced the Indians with 21 assists, six digs and three kills, while Samantha Banning finished with 16 digs and five aces.

Emily Miller and Alexis Solomon each had eight kills, with Miller also adding six digs. Lillian Brown added 11 digs and two aces, while Sydney Vincent contributed four kills and 10 digs.

Ella McLaughlin led the Blue Raiders with 21 digs, while Emily Amershek added 11 kills and nine digs.

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley defeated East Stroudsburg North in straight sets for a 25-3, 25-13, 25-8 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Desi Powell paced the Bears’ attack with nine kills, four digs, two blocks and two aces, while Cameron Caffrey chipped in with 19 assists and two kills.

The Bears also got strong play from Madi Rosenberg (five kills), Andrea Crilley (four digs, three assists) and Ari Weaver (four kills, four aces).

Catasauqua-Northwestern

Northwestern rolled to a 25-6, 25-10, 25-10 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Ashley Bennicoff led the Tigers’ offense with 14 assists, three aces, two digs and two kills. Shante Duminie added eight kills, while Samantha McGinley chipped in with six kills.

Palmerton-Notre Dame GP

Notre Dame of Green Pond defeated Palmerton in Colonial League action, 25-4, 25-4, 25-5.

Mary McFarland paced the Crusaders with 21 assists and six kills. Chiara Mowery added 13 digs and five aces.

Weatherly-Schuylkill Haven

Weatherly won the opening game, but dropped the next three as it suffered an 11-25, 25-22, 25-18, 27-25 Schuylkill League setback to Schuylkill Haven.

BOYS SOCCER

Saucon Valley-No. Lehigh

Saucon Valley recorded a 5-1 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Josh Sollars scored the Bulldogs’ lone goal.

Jacob Christopher led the Panthers’ with a goal and an assist. Zach Nicholas, Zach Appel, Jack Cassey and Ethan Kennedy all posted single scores.

Bulldogs’ keeper Logan Dyer finished with 10 saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

No. Lehigh-Saucon Vy.

Saucon Valley blanked Northern Lehigh, 7-0, in Colonial League action.

Caroline Gilbert and Sophia Riehl both finished with two goals for the Panthers. Kiele Riefenstahl added two assists.

The Panthers’ Kyra Jorryn, Lauren Giles and Kiele Riefenstahl all added singles scores.

GIRLS TENNIS

Pleasant Valley-Liberty

Liberty recorded a 4-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Alyssa Wagner posted a singles’ play win for the Bears, while the duo of Hope Hoppe and Kara Thourot paired up to score a win in doubles’ play.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Jim Thorpe boys swept Pine Grove, North Schuylkill and Pottsville in Schuylkill League action.

Sam Hydro, Noah Rodgers and Blake Kilmer paced the Olympians, crossing the finish line in second, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

The Jim Thorpe girls beat Pine Grove to end up at 1-2 on the day.

Megan Rosahac’s seventh- place finish led Thorpe.
