Hit-and-run crash under investigation

A hit-and-run crash that occurred Tuesday morning in the area of Dunkin’ Donuts in Lehighton resulted in downed wires.

Borough police said the incident occurred at 10:20 a.m. when a box-type truck, either a Penske, yellow in color, or a Ryder Rental truck, was seen striking a utility pole in that area.

The truck continued west on Route 443 after striking the pole.

Police said there should be heavy passenger side damage to the cargo area of this truck.

Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said this morning that as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the new pole was installed and they were transferring the wires.

“The Light and Power Department definitely did a phenomenal job with the logistics and getting the power on,” Beckett said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the borough police department at 610-377-4003.
