FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS

Franklin Township supervisors took the following action on Tuesday:

• Hired Amanda Uyvari as a temporary full-time secretary fill-in at the rate of $12.60 an hour.

• Awarded bids for seal coating to Pocono Spraypatching Inc., Gouldsboro, in the amount of $40,941.

• Awarded bids for road materials to Lehigh Asphalt, with the exception of one item that was awarded to Hanson Aggregates.

• Agreed to advertise the plans for the proposed work at Pump Station #2 (State Road), which will entail replacing the corrugated piping with stainless steel pipe in the wet well; replacing various flanges; replacing the current ladder with a stainless steel ladder; and installing all new checks and ball valves.

• Agreed to apply for a bulletproof vest grant for one of the township’s police officers.

• Announced that the dedication of the veterans memorial will be held June 23.

• Announced a change in garbage collection pickup for the Memorial Day holiday. The Monday, May 27, pickup has been changed to Tuesday, May 28.

• Reminded residents are to break down cardboard boxes when using the recycling bins, and also not to throw plastic bags into the recycling bins. Plastic bags are not recyclable and may not be put inside the bins. In addition, supervisors said that recycling in the township is for township residents only.

• Reminded that fishing at (only the stocked pond) the Phifer’s Ice Dam Park will only be opened to children 15 and under through June 10 of this year.

• Approved Palmerton’s request for the Franklin Township fire police to assist with traffic control for the Memorial Day Parade beginning at 9:30 a.m. May 27.

• Approved the Mahoning Township Board of Supervisor’s request for the Franklin Township fire police to assist with traffic control for the Annual Oriolefest Carnival held June 6-9.

• Approved Polk Township’s request for the Franklin Township fire police to help with the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company’s 50th Anniversary Parade to be held on June 8. They are asking assistance for traffic control and parking duties before and after the parade.
